David Eccles School of Business Announces Real Estate Competition
(Salt Lake City, Utah – October 23, 2007) – The Real Estate Center, at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, has announced the creation of the Utah Real Estate Challenge (UREC). The UREC is a real estate development plan competition for university students, at all levels, through out the State of Utah, and is directed by volunteer members of the real estate community.
The competition involves teams of up to five members, organized and directed by a qualifying student, competing in the creation of executable business plans for real estate development of retail, office, industrial, multi-family, low income, or residential projects. Teams will provide a full project scope including feasibility studies, economic overviews, return on investment analysis, and complete project planning. The winning business plan submission will be awarded a grand prize of $20,000, with other finalists receiving $2,000 prizes.
“By providing students the opportunity to create, organize, and present a real estate development project to a panel of judges, the UREC hopes to foster the understanding of real estate development for students at the college and university levels” said Bob Moore, Co-Director of the Real Estate Center at the University of Utah. Judges will consist of real estate professionals and developers, contractors, mortgage bankers, and other business leaders from the community. Moore also noted that teams may draw on the knowledge and expertise of mentors that have been selected for their experience in the real estate development industry.
Registration for the UREC will begin on November 29th, 2007 and competitors can sign up on the organization’s website at www.UtahREC.org. More information on the competition is also available at the UREC website as well. The competition has been initiated by the David Eccles School of Business and is made possible by the generous support of sponsors, mentors, judges, and faculty members of participating schools across the State of Utah.
